Chi Eta Phi Sorority, Inc. was founded in 1932, by Aliene Ewell and 11 other registered nurses, at Freedman Hospital now, Howard University Hospital in Washington, DC. Alpha Phi Chapter was chartered in 1992 and is part of the Southwest Region, which is one of five regions of Chi Eta Phi Sorority Inc. in the United States.

Our activities include health fairs, educational scholarships, leadership development, asthma programs, blood pressure clinics, health education programs for SID’s, diabetes, breast health, wellness programs and spotlighting nurses of excellence.
​
During this pandemic, registered nurses are recognized to be more important than ever in the healthcare industry. Nurses are truly “health heroes,” exceeding expectations as to as they battle this deadly health challenge. We heartily support our fellow colleagues by adhering to Covid –19 guidelines, providing education about the virus and the vaccines, and by doing all we can to remain healthy and out of inundated hospitals. In Memoriam

Fredonnia was our charter (first) president and totally devoted to the sorority and its purposes. One of the purposes of the sorority is to “elevate the plane of nursing.” She was committed to the recognition of nurses for their service and always looked for opportunities to honor individual nurses. She was instrumental in the formation of a Chi Eta Phi graduate chapter and undergraduate chapter in Oakland, Ca – Omicron Phi and Omicron Phi Beta.
